I am only just starting my DMP so not got much in the way of advice as I'm still looking for and taking it. With regards the Sky repair plan, I've never taken 1 out and when our box went caput and Sky told me that it would cost £60.00? for a call out, I told them I would cancel altogether and I had a free visit and a brand new box and it didn't cost a penny. I have other friends that refused to pay a charge and they had it free also. This could free up £7.00 for you, (sorry I couldn't do better) .
  • Hi, £21 for contents insurance sounds high if it's just contents and not buildings/contents. Also could you get a different bundle with sky and maybe ditch the multiroom? £83 sounds a lot for broadband, tv and phone.

Ghosthunter, as a Stalwart, you just know already what anyone is going to say and your options are little restricted in rented accomodation but here goes

    MONTHLY EXPENDITURE:
£85.00 - Rent (after housing benefit)
    £64.00 - Council Tax(after council tax benefit)
£21.00 - Contents Insurance - use any of the regular comparison sites as this could be halved
    £35.00 - Water (supply + waste)
    £50.00 - Gas + Electricity
    £12.00 - TV License
£31.00 - Sky subscription (Sky+ & multiroom)) why are you not on the standard sky package deal,
£ 7.00 - Sky repair plan ) where your tv, bb and calls are covered rather than spending £83
£15.00 - Broadband ) using this and by passing BT
£30.00 - Telephone ) you could save £25, even using the telephone regularly
    £31.00 - Dog insurance (2 pets)
£28.20 - store finance loan 1 ) Although you don't provide the interest rates or the value of the outstanding loans
£11.65 - store finance loan 2 ) could you not apply for 0% balance transfers
    £23.88 - Store finance loan 3 )

£250.00 Food / other (supplies 2 adults & 2 dogs). )This seems alot for just 2 adults and 2 dogs, there are a lot of suggestions in the forums for spending a lot less. I always recommend to friends that they plan their meals (for 2 weeks at a time) and visit Lidl\Aldi. I think you could save ~£70-£100 here,

i agree £30 for the phone sounds a lot. Could you get a deal with sky (as u have it already) to have sky, net and phone with them? and i too agree with Tim I would ditch multiroom. you can always wire it so you can see sky in every room, just means the same channel, but u could record whats being missed?

also get to the vouchers section - u could reduce ur shopping by a load a month without even changing what you buy... just how u pay :)

Hi thanks for all the replies and help so far.

To try and answr some of your questions:

I am going to post loan rates and credit card info hopefully in next few days need to gather the paperwork together.

Telephone - think I didnt state this amount correctly (sorry I took the reading wong from an old bill), it should be about £19 (Tesco Homephone 'anytime') we use our phone mainly during the day and to be honest dont make many outgoing calls but receive quite a few! Will double check this and ammend when update. Confused myself may have added line rental or
    mis-read!
    Sky -
Your correct, Wer'e not on the cheapest standard package no, but we are almost, just 1 package up. The cheapest package that will allow our my husbands and my favourite channels. I enquired about this and its a maximum of £3 more a month between packages.

I feel it necessary to have multiroom as my husband likes completely different channels to me! I have tried to sit for hours and watch re-runs of popular car, science, mechanical and motor based shows but I get no enjoyment from it. In comparison he has tried to sit and watch my shows and cant cope with the mush either! There simply isnt enough space on the Sky+ or any alternative recording methods to hold all the programms I/he want to record in 1 week anyhow there are already several clashes of viewing times. Hence the reason we had Multiroom and Sky+

A feable excuse maybe, but as I dont drink, smoke and we never go for a night out other than a trip to Tesco its the little bit of luxury we allow ourselves other than Broadband.

Sky Repair plan - I see your points here, however I have argued with Sky until red faced  in the past over certain issues with our bills and boxes and maybe I am one of the unlucky ones but they wont budge for me! We have had the main box for 8 years now, they wouldn't even upgrade the ugly thing when they put in Sky+ even though I asked, almost pleaded for an upgrade!

Cant get cable round here, wish we could it would be so much cheaper.

I am trying to stay with Tesco for another year (or 2) even though they are so expensive, because I am saving clubcard points every which way I may to take my hubby and me to Disneyworld Florida for a 2nd honeymoon to celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2010. We were unable to make it for our first honeymoon in 2000 and ended up in a caravan in Tenby (which was nice but not what we had planned) as our savings were stolen along with our wedding gifts :(

No excuses I realise will review and repost during next few days.

Goes to hide again _pale_
  • Hi again

Phone bill - £22.36 per month (plus any calls other calls not inclusive. I have 2 people I call regularly who are also subscribed to Tesco homephone so our chats are free. However mobile calls are not included.

    9.87 Talk 3 package
    11.00 Line Rental (Tesco)
    1.49 Call features (caller display)

I have gathered together most of the recent credit card letters and have a few statements. Can you tell me what specifics you need to know to assist me please?

    Many thanks

It probably helps to know the total outstanding, the APR you are paying and the minimum payment.

Hi I'm a little cofused from your SOA. Is there a reason why neither of you work. I'm presuming neither of you do because there are no wages listed as income. Also I thought people were only entitled to Working Tax Credit if they were working but I may have that totally wrong.

    MONTHLY EXPENDITURE:
£85.00 - Rent (after housing benefit)
    £64.00 - Council Tax(after council tax benefit)
£21.00 - Contents Insurance - i earned £10 last year on this - going through Quidco! By looking at your rent, you don't seem to be in a place that would attract a massive contents ins. bill. Plus, being in all the time must make your ins. quotes tiny!
£35.00 - Water (supply + waste) - this sounds very high for two people! are you sure you're not paying your account into a credit balance? Is this on a meter?
£50.00 - Gas + Electricity - suprisingly low given the above about water!
    £12.00 - TV License
£31.00 - Sky subscription (Sky+ & multiroom) - if you're in debt and struggling, Sky is not necessary no matter what excuses you have for it! Sorry for the harshness but it's meant as advice :o - this and the below is £38 per month or £456 per year!
    £ 7.00 - Sky repair plan
£15.00 - Broadband - if you insist on keeping sky, this comes free with it.
£30.00 - Telephone - have you considered getting a mobile to use instead of this? A load of free minutes each month on contract may be significantly cheaper than this but depends on your calls.
    £31.00 - Dog insurance (2 pets)
    £28.20 - store finance loan 1
    £11.65 - store finance loan 2
    £23.88 - Store finance loan 3

£250.00 Food / other (supplies 2 adults & 2 dogs). - faaaar too high - this could be a quarter of this amount! See the OS board for further info.

    MONTHLY INCOME:
    Working Tax Credits - £320.00
    Incapacity Benefits - £300.00

Am going to try and approach this carefully but is the IB for you and your husband? £620 is not a lot to live on! Are either you/your husband able to get a p/t job?

Here is the bit I have to type to make up the character length....
