One late payment on Credit Card, how bad will it effect my Credit Score?

Hi,

I want to apply for a 0% credit card offer and make a balance transfer from the one I have where the 0% offer has ran out.

Now I've had a cc card for over 5 years now (have 3 to be exact all on 0% offers), now one which I have I do not use anymore and the other 2 I pay more than than the minimum amount off every month.

Now the question is that my 0% offer on my M&S card has finished and I wish to apply for maybe an egg cc card with 15 months 0% offer.

A few months back I forgot to make a payment to my barclaycard and ended up paying areound 4 days late, this is the first time it has happened.

Will this affect my credit score and chances of getting a new card/deal?

Otherwise I have never had any Issues with late payments and always paid my mortgage on time every month etc etc?

What do you think?

Cheers now,

A single late payment like this is very unlikely to affect your Credit Rating, especially as you did make the payments a couple of days later.

I very much doubt they would even have reported this "first offence" to the Credit Reference Agencies.

Infact Capital One's criteria for an "excellent" credit rating even allows for a single late payment in the last 12 months.

    Good Luck.

Judging from posts to this board, Barclaycard always reports late payments (even when CSAs have promised otherwise) but, as Nick says, a single late payment will not affect your credit rating.

If you register your details on Barclaycard's website, you can monitor your account frequently online, rather than rely solely on postal statements.

Also, might be an idea to set up a direct debit to pay the minimum amount. That way, it's BCard's responsibility, not yours, to make sure the monthly repayments get there at the right time ;)

My Halifax CC mis-reported (after a late payment of 3 days) that I was in arrears on my credit report. It took 6 months to correct the issue involving letters, emails, purchasing credit reports, error disputes etc.

Problem is I only knew a problem existed once I failed a bunch of credit checks for a new phone.
