Out of maybe 40 odd parcels I've sent lately, 1 special delivery package wasn't delivered the next day, but the day after. Was refunded my £5.20 without fuss.
My mother recently sent a parcel with birthday pressies and cards for the kids. She must hav eused about three small bits of sellotape on it! The postie was really apologetic as he stood there with this tattered collection of bits of brown paper / birthday paper held together by elastic bands that the PO had used to try and keep it all together. I'm sure the entire contents must have all tipped out at some point, but the PO had done a great job and it all got here (including £100 in cash in an unsealed envelope!)
As such hy faith has been restored in the PO recently - it may have it's problems, but considering the volume of stuff they deal with at reasonable prices, I think they provide a good service.
BTW, I have nothing to do with them in any capacity other than as a customer.0 -
I think the main problem is the piecemeal break up of its market.
The PO are under constant pressure to cut costs from HM Government. And the threat of breaking up their monopoly.
In general I am against monoplies but in this instance I think any opening of the letter postal market to competition will result in rural and outlying areas suffering a severly depleted postal service.
Surely the one area the PO needs to spend money is to attract a dedicated full time staff instead of cutting staff to below the critical level and then having to rely on untrained and possibly unmotivated agency staff.
As I have stated earlier I really have no problems with the Postal service ....but I do live in the sticks.0
