DDs Pc crashing!

After installing Win XPSP2 and then new graphic card drivers - latest recommended Catalyst Control Center - for (Radeon 9200se), her PC seems to freeze/crash randomly then reboot. This happens in particular when she is on 'Messenger' and or 'Bebo' often when running videoclips/ games. Event Viewer (System) shows the following errors: - ati2mtag (event 108), system Error (cat 102) (event 1003) and dhcp (event 1002). I'm trying to make sense of these using the Amd site but hope that someone can help short cut the process! We also seem to get a pop up window saying "you co not have permission to change CATALYST Control Center settings. Please contact your administrator for help" Well, we have not tried to change anything! Hope someone can help! Thanks

unfortunately generic ati drivers are updated with the original reference design of the video chipset in mind.
This reference spec is not always adhered to by video card manufacturers and you may need to revert to the original drivers.
Sometimes these driver updates introduce performance tweaks which expose other problems in the system such as lack of correct heat dissipation.
From your description I imagine this is a desktop machine so check all heatsinks and fans are free of dust and running smoothly.
freezing and crashing are un-trapped errors so the error log may not be much use in diagnosing this problem and may actually mislead you .

Yes, fans and heat sinks are clear of dust and running smoothly - these are checked every month after spending ages finding out why Spybot and Ad-aware were crashing various machines a couple of years ago! NB I've just checked again and all is ok re dust etc. Unfortunately, I can't find original drivers disk when machine was built and installed the ATi control centre after having problems with graphics after installing SP2.

Are you sure your booting up in administrator mode? it sounds like all you need to do is boot into administrator mode, and try uninstalling\re-installing graphics card.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it ago - the pop-up problem didn't occur initially after installation so something must have changed! We never had this problem prior to installing SP2 and the new Catalyst control center! I'm trying to find the original drivers for this card.

Try driverguide.com but its possible the old drives conflict with sp2, its quite possible there are some fix patches available on the microsoft download site or that could resolve it. I know SP2 affected my dvd rom drive, in much the same way.
