I have used the AA one in the past but have since lost faith with when it got me lost on the way to Sheffield Hospital
:rotfl: I have used the RAC one and have found that to be very good.

Multimap routefinder
I have used both RAC and AA in the past and both have let me down so whatever route planner you decide to use check it first to see the route suggested is sensible. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Strange ... I've always found the AA Route planner rather nifty
... Failing that, I use a mapbook ...

alanrowell wrote:Why do you need a routeplanner for that - follow signs to M62, go along till you meet the M1, urn left, follow M1 / A1M / A1 until you reach Newcastle - assuming you mean Newcastle upon Tyne & not Under Lyme or any of the other Newcastle's in the UK.
I live in the North East and can assure you if you stay on the A1 until you reach Newcastle you will have a long wait. The A1 by passes Newcastle by about 3 miles.
I think you meant stay on the A1 until you see signs for Newcastle and follow them.
No disrespect meant!0 -
For the sake of sanity don't try Google's route finder.... I tried it for my journey into the office (I only go about once a week) it's 61 miles and takes 65 minutes - Google's best effort is 86 miles and 2h11 minutes!
Personally I trust to instinct to get me within 10 miles and then I get out the map book (I admit I have SatNav in the car, but find myself ignoring it for the 'grind' driving along motorways and main roads)
Oh and it's a less unpleasant (but about 15-30 mins longer) drive to use M6 to J43 then A69 to Newcastle from Liverpool/Manchester. Most of the traffic turns off by J34/35 of the M6, so it really is an easy drive. M62/A1 is a congested race track and I avoid both like the plague. In my experience no route planner will choose the M6/A69 route. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Yeh that what I meant, I do it so often that I don't think about the last few miles.0

Another option worth a look is www.mapquest.co.uk
I can also recommend its big brother https://www.mapquest.com for travel in the good ole US of A
