Perhaps you failed to notice that Chris' name was lacking any letters after it? Perhaps he is a real vet who practices holistic medicine, or perhaps he is a chap who calls himself a holistic vet. As it happens, when I was looking through the site I did see that he was apparently a vet back in 1985, so I assume he is, but he hardly advertises it.

Tell you what. You show me where there's a peer reviewed scientific study and I'll withdraw my "hippy feeling" comment. You might have trouble, as the site says, "However, the efficacy of nosodes remains unproven by any current scientifically-accepted criteria." This translates to "hippy feeling" in my book. Bear in mind that the study that he links to (his own that I haven't analysed) is from 1985. No apparent follow-up in 27 years!

There is a "first-hand report" of how a litter of puppies made it through a Parvo infection. In 2009. Seriously, that's meant to satisfy me that regular vets are wrong and this guy is right?

It goes on to say "
Many other dogs in that area reportedly died of Parvovirus during that outbreak." Cite? Where is this report? Ultimately, this is precisely why this sort of thing should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

And the part which says there is no proven basis for annual vaccinations? Do you have evidence to the contrary?
Nicely circular that one. Not being a vet, no. My vet (and frankly everyone else I've ever spoken to regarding animals) tells me it's the right thing to do.

Your cui bono argument applies both ways, in that I'm assuming there's money to be made running an alternative medicine practice. Sure, I'm certain that vets offer, and even promote, procedures and treatments that they would not if they were paid a flat salary plus costs every year. However, I doubt that immunisation would be one of those. Might be wrong though.

  • Having read this post as I too have been feeling concerned about the increasing financial costs of and the exposure to myself and my dog to these ?? neccesary and ?? toxic monthly flea/worming treatments versus the risks to my dog catching lungworm, getting infested with fleas/my home getting infested with fleas I found this interesting article to share with others. It seems my dog is potentially at risk of this lungworm, something I have only recently become aware of, because she often eats grass, does she really need a monthly treatment for this just incase to hopefully reduce this risk or as this link suggests not worry too much and ignore the drug companys possible scare tactics...??
I've never actually seen her eat any slugs or snails but it seems that they could have left behind parasites on the grass or tiny slugs that my dog eats unintentially. I have never heard of anyones dog actually having this parasite..! But fear and love for my pet sets in if I continue to ignore the hype...
My vets never even mentioned it at her yearly vaccinations, though I have not asked yet but feel I will on my next visit.
I just seem to be hearing more frequently about it in the media, eg the rspca magazine had an awareness article this month.
BTW this article is not from my vets, its not even my area but I came across it whilst googling lungworm today. It seems to me theres a lot of unneccesary hype encouraging us to part with our money on expensive monthly drugs that may harm our dogs and our familes.

(Tried to attach the link to the article but as am new am not allowed, anyway I summerised it pretty much in the text above so you'll get the jist of it and if anyone wants to find it you can google the title of my post as its a similar titled article)
