Issue 2 – what does this mean

I've been looking at various accounts and some of them have "Issue 2" in brackets after the account name.

What does this mean?

It means it's a limited edition account which has been available before, became unavailable and has now been re-advertised, possibly with different terms and rates.

Bradford and Bingley are well known for offering an account, making it no longer available, dropping the rate and then offering a new issue with a better rate - the good news is they let you open the new issue and move your money across..

Well, here's an old cynics answer to your question.

Banks and Building Societies need to attract new savers all the time, so they regularly re-invent (issue 2 or more) their savings products with higher interest rates or better guarantees which make the headlines on their websites look very encouraging.

In the meantime, issue 1 has disappeared from the website front page and the interest rate will be lowered very rapidly in the hope that subscribers to issue 1 will be too lazy to check and not notice that their once-upon-a-time great deal is now yesterday's garbage.
