I have just purchsed my first DVD writer.
Installed it in my PC and XP recorgnised it with no problems.
BTW its a NEC ND-4550 from SVP.
On opening the MY COMPUTER folder the drive shows up as DVD-RAM DRIVE E.
So far so good. However when I insert a Fujifilm DVD R+ into the drive it changes to read CD DRIVE E.The drive fails to recorgnise there is a DVD in the drive at all.Where am I going wrong?
Thanks in advance

I've just noticed mine does that aswell, works ok though
dose it read it ok?
Windows isn't good with reporting devices but it's only a shell & cache thing, I mean it should use your device correctly put often reports thing as being not what they are but they are unrelated.
Does is play your dvd as normal, if so there is no problem.
If you want to force win to update it's icon cache you can boot to safe mode then back again.0 -
You need to write the DVD with dvd software like Nero.
You probably got this with the drive on a disc.0 -
IF you are inserting a blank DVD, then Windows won't recognise what it is (hence it listing it as a CD) - this isn't a problem with your drive. As culpepper advises you will need to use DVD software to write to the blank disc.
I think all manuals provided with DVD writers should make this clear, it wouldn't take much to include a note in the box to inform buyers.0 -
XP does strange things like this with DVD writers. Don't worry about it.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

I have managed to write some data to a DVD now.
Seems I had not clicked the correct options in Nero.
Thanks all for your help.
