I have never ordered from them before- has anyone else? They are also doing a fab deal on the Ipod 60GB photo £234.75 inc postage.

Never heard of them myself - the iPod photo 60GB will soon be discounted everywhere no doubt.
  • Can confirm that what Beninio88 says is true too!

I just read that article on the BBC before coming here. I can't believe it.

Forgive me if I come across as a bit of a troll here, but what is it about iPods that gets everyone so excited?

There's a whole host of portable mp3/audio/visual/video players out there, most of them significantly cheaper than the iPod, smaller (yes - even smaller than the nano!) and just as versatile.

Sure, the iPod has 20GB of storage... but how many songs can you listen to at once? Besides, an mp3's quality is in the file itself, not the device on which it's played. I'd much rather stick a 1GB SD card into my modest mp3 player and update it with new songs as and when.

And 60GB on the video player? Do me a Quaver. I'm going to need at least twice that if it's going to be any use to me.

And which videos will it play exactly? Will it decrypt my DVD collection, compress them and then copy the files across for me so i can enjoy the stuff i already own when and wherever i want..... or am i expected to pay ANOTHER £15 for each of these videos so i can watch them on this device too (PSP anyone?). Cheers.

Kudos to Apple's marketing department. They've actually convinced people that they need one of these things and that it's the only device for the job. Furthermore, folk are gullible/shallow enough that they think they need the latest version too.

You have a spare £200+? Send it to Pakistan... or New Orleans... or Africa... or buy another 200 "Make Poverty History" wristbands (to go with your other 6).

C'mon people! You've JUST bought the nano! Do you really need another one?!

You know the new iPod video nano shuffle with built-in modem and copy of Tetris is going to be out for Christmas anyway.

    And you'll lap it up.

You want to be a money saver? Don't buy an iPod. :D

    TV recording: no
    TV out: yes
File types: from the Specs page:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

It's still primarily a music player, the video option is merely a "secondary feature" added to satisfy demand. If you want a dedicated video player there are better options.

    so not AVI ??

But possible the same format as PSP??

I was given some files formatted to PSP ..MPEG4.., these would not play on either my (aged) PDA (no sound) nor on my Archos ( nothing) with using conversion software

AVI could mean anything - it's not the file extension that determines the type of file, it's the codec used. For example you can get AVI files that use the Divx, Xvid or Intel codec (to name but a few).

Likewise, the .MP4 files encoded for the PSP appears to be using a codec that is not supported in the devices you have tested. This doesn't mean all .MP4 files won't work, it's purely dependent upon the type of codec used to compress the file.

If the codec for the PSP is compatible with Apple's iPod codec, then files that work on one can work on the other - although there will be aspect ratio issues as the PSP is widescreen and many PSP files are encoded in widescreen ratios.

Same for sound, it's dependent upon codecs. There are apps out there that will convert a file encoded with a particular codec into another.

There's a program called G-Spot that will tell you what codec an AVI file is using - http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Yes it's rather complicated and does my head in too :D
