Installing Adobe Reader 9

Hi all

I've uninstalled my previous version of Adobe Reader (8.1.2 I think) and tried to install version 9.
It gets so far and then I get a message that Adobe installer is unable to write to registry key "\AcroExch.FDFDoc\shell\read\command"

I've CCleaner to ensure no lingering (bits) of old installations and it's coming up clear.

Anyone any ideas on how to get round this?

If you only want a pdf reader, forget Adobe and install Foxit instead [free & many say much better, and doesn't keep wanting to connect & update constantly]

But the reader-only download is free anyway and I'm used to Adobe little "foibles".

Have you tried downloading and installing again? Just upgraded now myself and all seemed to go ok.

Just had another go after running "1-Click Maintenance" and the Registry Cleaner from Tune-Up Utilities.
Now I've got a different error that says :-
\.fdf\AcroExch.FDFDoc\ShellNew. (and then a few spaces)
If I click on Ignore, I get :-
    Unable to create key UNKNOWN\.fdf.

Take Farway's advise, instead of 'foibles' you'll just have a small, fast PDF reader which loads quickly, and does the job perfectly, I don't allow acroread, realplayer or any of the other proprietary rubbish on my pc unless there is no free alternative

As stated above use foxit instead of adobe reader, it is a lot less bloated and uses a lot less ram when running http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/

OK - installed the Foxit reader and everything seems to be running fine.
Now, just had a wander through the registry (without removing anything) and found a load of Adobe stuff.
Now, I also have Photoshop installed, but can I remove all the other Adobe stuff without causing problems?
If I do cause a problem, will a system restore remove my changes?

Totally agree with "Faraway". DO NOT INSTALL ADOBE READER 9!

Why, because its hugely bloated and takes up 200MB of Hard disk space - and for what? A basic and simple program like a PDF reader?! Some games I play don't even take up that amount of space on a hard disk.

Foxit Reader is much much smaller and does almost everything Adobe Reader does and its free as well.
