HELP! builders have damaged my door!

  • just to let you know, the holes are on the bottom of the door frame and the scrapes and dents are all along the same area-builder tried to say this is wear to that area that everyone has as you could stand on it and damage it yourself-you can quite clearly see the scratches have the wrinkled up paint still attached where something sharp and heavy has hit them!
They are clear to see when the door is closed so hasnt happened when door was open, also he said the other profiles of the door would have been damaged aswell if it had been hit eg handle or other areas of door-but i pointed out that was just lucky for him,as the rubble was piled up actually on the bits that are damaged because there is a concrete step at the door frame level and i couldnt open the door as it would have fallen into the hall!
I will contact my house insurence tomorrow.
As mentioned before by op,i dont want this builder to be the one to replace the door now as i just wouldnt trust him-where do i stand on that?
Also, sometime this week they will be back to remove the render on the rear of the house this will possibly cause more damage as our rear kitchen extensions both meet in the middle and its a flat roof so if they dont protect my property again, what if they damage my flippin roof!?

  • not much help as far as advice goes but if your worried about the work to be done out back then id get some pics took now to cover yourself!!!

no doubt someone will be able to give better advice but what about getting the door done and going don the route of a small claims court, perhaps if you were to get some papers in order and ask for the details of the boss so you can file them correctly he may get a bit worried and play ball regarding any repairs/replacements that are needed.
  • hi everyone,just a quick update!!

The builder handed me a cheque yesterday for £200 as compensation..he still wouldnt admit he caused the damage (!!) and when i thanked him for the money and suggested all he had to do in the beginning was say sorry and i would have left it at that he got cross and told me i should be happy with the money and not make a fuss..............lol.he then walked off!!
    Anyway-result!
    thanks for all who wrote.
    xxx Laura.
