I am going to Cape Town for a month in summer with my wife and son who is under two. Does anyone have any tips for:
- Where we might have days out in Cape Town?
- Cheap b & bs in the surrounding locality? - we've got accom in CT but want to have a few days in Stellenbosch ect
- Good places to go shopping for groceries, etc?
- Where we can pick up second hand toys? CT doesn't seem to have charity shops like we have here!
- Anything else we need to know!

Priority should be Table Mountain, on the first clear and still day get up there for the view.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Unfortunately when we went in December we didn't even get up the mountain, every time we tried it was shut... good luck because we would have loved to have done it.
We went on an overnight safari to a place called Aquila which is approx 2 hour drive out of Cape Town, really worth doing, saw lots of wildlife.
Definately recommend going to Hermanus to see the whales, didn't think it would interest me but then we couldn't tear ourselves away and were there for hours watching them, do check when you go if they are around then though.
Hope you have a fab trip, if you need any more info let me know, I could have spent ages telling you about it but didn't wanna bore you!!

Don't forget the trip to see the penguins on Boulders Beach,i think thats what its called.0

Two Oceans Aquarium - really lovely and your ticket (ultraviolet stamp on the hand) allows you entry for the whole day, so if you miss the shark feeding, you can pop to the V&A for lunch and then back to the aquarium.0

I agree definitely the mountain, a boat trip to seal island, drive over Chapmans Peak if it is open. Hout Bay and a visit to Bird World (think that is what it is called). Boulders and the penguins are well worth a visit. If you do the wine route try and get round to Stellenbosh, Franschoek and Paarl. Simons Town and the gem factory. The waterfront is great as is the aquarium and definitely try and catch feeding in the predator tank. Green Market square during the week and Green Point market on a Sunday if it is still on, both these markets are/were good. There is a theme park, Ratanga Junction, which is worth a visit if it is still open. I have never done the Robben Island trip but believe it is interesting.
If you don't mind driving you could take the west coast road and head towards Club Mykonos, this is about a two hour drive from Cape Town. Hermanus is about two hours from Cape Town and is lovely. This is where you can whale watch but that depends when you are there, I think the wales are in September/October.
If you would like a couple of nights away from Cape Town you could spend a night or two in Knysna which is beautiful but is about five hours away.
As for shopping for groceries try to find a Pick n Pay or Hyperama.
For Table mountain look at this web site http://www.tablemountain.net/ for accommodation and general info these may be of assistance http://www.cape-town.org/ & http://www.tourismcapetown.co.za/
Hope some of this information helps and have a fantastic time, Cape Town is beautiful0 -
Has anyone been to cape town for new years eve?
im going this year, and wondered if anyone knows what it is like.2011 Challenge £276.71 / £11,000:T0 -
Haven't spent a New Year there for many years, but it was always good. Depending on what you want to do, you will have to book in advance for any restaurants or night clubs but if you are near the waterfront the fireworks are great. Bars in the waterfront will be packed from early on and may well charge a cover charge.0
