Scottish Power have been providing us with Electricity and Gas for a while, but several months ago, I realised that they had stopped sending us Gas invoices - no matter how many times I reported this to their customer services, they refused to acknowledge that they had ever provided us with Gas. We couldn't even transfer our gas because no one could find out who was providing it!
Worried that they would one day notice their mistake and send us a huge bill - I got them to email me:
Further to our telephone conversation.
I can confirm we are billing you for Electricity only, and have never supplied the Gas to xx, xxxxxxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxx, cheshire
guess what happened this morning? Yep, a bill for over £750 for 24 months of gas due to "a previous misalignment in our records" whatever that is...
Surely there is a time limit to how long someone can bill you for? Don't know how they can get away with this incompetence.
In USA - not only will a consumer not be expected to pay this, the consumer would sue the company for even asking them to pay an invoice this late!!

I am having major problems myself with them on a prepayment meter which went faulty there expecting me to pay for Electricty twice and have even added this to the meter as a debt the prepayment meter has been in since I moved in to the property and are now taking £5 a week off of what I put onto this they've been provided proof its been paid but until they get where the money has gone im still expected to pay it and only then will I get my money back I myself class this as Mugging me and theft of my money0

I'd phone them up and ask for a recording of your conversation with them where they said they never supplied it.
I'm expecting GARYFIRST will be along shortly to tell you about his "Identical and personal experience" with Scottish Power.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Hi, the good news is that if SP have never sent you a bill for gas then they can only bill you for the last 12months usage, that should reduce it a bit.0 -
I had the same problem a few years ago with both my gas and electricity. After I moved house they realised their mistake and simply quoted the bill as if it was no big deal.
I complained to Energywatch and their own complaints dept. and got a discount on both, so perhaps you should do the same and you might get a discount on top of the 12 month cut.0
