My son will only wear these canvas shoes. They are black and white check which soon becomes a dirty grey colour. I have put them in the washing machine but this didn't work and I am nervous about increasing temperature. Is there a miracle cleaner out there. Just been watching "It works" on QVC which deals with stains, is there something which deals with grime?

I have successfully washed Vans and Converse in the machine with a pre-wash & big dose of good old Persil bio powder - it got rid of the Glastonbury mud from a couple of years ago!
That was probably a 40 degree wash, although I may have done a 60 degree to kill anything lurking in the mud!0 -
Did you wash at 40 degrees or higher?0

I've just got a lot of stains out of clothes using hydrogen peroxide. £1 a bottle (9% strength) from the chemist. I applied it neat (wearing rubber gloves!), rubbed it in, left it for about half an hour and then washed the clothes on a quick cool wash. No colour fade either btw.0

just to warn you, when i put my son's converse in at more than a 30° wash (think i did a 40° one) the canvas shoe bit shrunk, and he couldn't get his foot in any more!!!0

I had some of these before, and I soaked them in a mild stardrops solution in a bucket before putting in WM and they came up pretty good. NOt brand new of couerse but not bad considering how filthy they were! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hmm don't know if this helps, but I've seen loads of Vans at our local TK Maxx really cheap, I know it's not reviving the old but if you need to replace then it might be worth a look.:staradmin0

tbh - i wore my vans till the fabric started to come off the sole and they where a black and white print... i never washed them lol. So if its just a greying issue, i wouldnt worry too much. If its like OP with mud etc then ok id do a low temp wash to try and get the dirt out, but id not do a higher wash for fear of the glue going funny.0
