Car Battery-InCar Charger Drain?

I have never used the charger in my car before but always thought it was best to use it when the car was running and the battery was recharging.

I have just got a Sat nav. If I leave in on charge overnight, when the car is at a standstill and the engine off , how long would it take to drain my battery?

This appears to be an alternative but if my car battery can take the strain I will not buy it!

Some cars will not leave the cig lighter switched on without the key in the ignition. You only really need to have it fully charged if you intend to use it while walking with it, and leaving it with the car may lead to a theft attempt.

There is no need to charge your SatNav overnight, if you intend to use it for walking just pop it on charge whilst the car is in motion. SatNav doesn't take that long to charge anyway

Many thanks for the replies.

My Incar Charger is next to the drivers seat and because the Satnav has to be by the windscreen is very cumbersome having it connected to the charger whilst driving.

I have been trying to charge the Satnav via the USB port in my computer but it takes all day How long does to take to charge in car?

Will the charger from Argos work? Some of the replies on that link appear to think not!

Buy a home charger for your sat nav. They are within a fiver on Ebay. Problem solved.

I don't have the Argos one, but got another one which fully charges my sat nav at home within 2 hours.

we regularly charge five mobile phones through an adaptor in my car at scout camps.. leave them all there overnight, with no noticeable drain on the battery... not sure if that helps...

I assume one Satnav would take alot less juice that five mobiles so I should be ok.

Read in a previous post that the the Car adaptor's output is 5V at 1.5A.
I've no idea what this means and how much it takes out of the car battery

its usually 12V 10A

5V @1.5amp is usually the output of the mains transformer/charger;)

My navman can take 2 to 3 hrs to charge when in use in the car.

Wipe the sucker marks off the windscreen too as thats what the little scrotes look for:cool:
