My setup has not been changed for years. It has only recently slowed down. Probably due to over-subscription within my residential area. I am on the 2mb so know virgin are throttling my connection at peak times but some days it is ridiculous.

I gather you are on cable. Well I'm on the Virgin ADSL 2Mbit service and it is just as bad. During peak periods, the service slows to well below dial-up modem speeds with often lengthy periods when absolutely nothing happens. And I'm paying nearly £18 a month for this non-service. Virgin are a joke.

I left Virgin around 5 or 6 months ago. Best thing I ever did. I got fed up with abyssmal service levels compounded by hard to understand accents.

I moved to Zen Internet who are totally brilliant.

But, I do live near the local exchange so that helps with my connection speed which is around 6 - 7 meg usually.
    Where now?

So is there any way out of a virgin contract?

No, unless you want to go to court and try to prove that they are in breach of their contract with you, and the small print in their contract will undoubtedly ensure you don't win.

I have written a very strong letter expressing my disgust and asking to be relieved of my contractual obligations. Actually I am amazed that I am online today - Sundays are usually 'drop' days.

If you have some access to internet, you should use the excellent support via newsgroups.

    See: www.virginmedia.com/newsgroups

Then go to: virginmedia.support.broadband.cable for support. They have a 4 hour time they should respond in, open staff there 08:00 - 22:00 each day.

(Remember not to top post replies, so it helps keep the flow of the messages).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I couldn't see a corresponding virginmedia.support.broadband.adsl group. Don't we ADSL users exist in their eyes?

    Dave.

At the moment, there's only support via the newsgroups for cable.

For years xTelewest cable customers have had support via this route, then recently they've added support for xNTL cable customers, however they haven't got around to support for ADSL customers.
