a winter ball

Hey guys - i need some inspiration. I should be throwing a corporate winter ball for charity this christmas, anyway I am wondering what I can do to make it a bit more special and memorable. We are already thinking of a live act or 2 to perform for the night and perhaps table magicians. If we can pull it off a display of diamonds from a local jewellers (to look pretty and for them to sell and donate commission to charity). But I think we still need other ideas.
So if you where going to a ball, or have been to one or even a wedding party - what kind of things make it seem like a really great night and well worth the money?
Thanks guys

Are you having a theme? I always think a theme ties things together well. You could go for a 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend' theme maybe, or a 'Snowflake' theme which would allow you to display the diamonds. You can get some lovely table diamonds on eBay to scatter on table, and also snowflake confetti.
At my grad ball we had a chocolate fountain which went down really well, and if it's for charity you could ask for donations per dip....
Are you having a sit down meal? If so can you get a local florist to donate some floral table decorations then ask for donations for people to take home at the end of the night? I only say this as at all the weddings I've been to recently people have been desperate to take the table decs home.
Hope that helps

thanks
i have a loose theme in my head - kind of wintery and icey (hence the diamonds-ice get it lol?) but nothing firmer than that. Yes there will be a 3 course sit down meal with a cocktail welcome reception to start. Chocolate fountain could be great - white chocolate for a snow effect
and the table diamonds idea is great too - thanks again

Some twinkling fairy lights would be really pretty as well.
Maybe white flowers on the tables with some glitter on them.
You could also have some balloons displays on the tables - white and silver would look really nice.
You could have some pretty twig branches around - spray them silver or white and glittery.
Just a couple of ideas for you to think about. xxx0 -
These would look really nice if you are giving any favours on the tables0 -

They are on the Martha Stewart website.

There are lots of different ideas for winter weddings and white themed weddings - i know it's not a wedding you're having but it gives you some ideas.0 -
Could you have an ice sculpture. Also how about having a photographer with a winter scene backdrop for people to have their photos takenNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Do a google search for winter ball decorations. I like the colour scheme of midnight blue silver and pale blue. You could have a mirror ball to create the sparkle of snow effect. Use snowflake shaped confetti on the tables. Late now but I will try to find more tomorrow.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

i was at a black tie ball in april for our local special needs school's 50th and we had a great evening they had table magicians three course meal a live band an auction which raised £15,000 + and a raffel for a magium of champers at a £1 a ticket (most people bought 5 or 10 pounds worths of tickets) and the best bit was when the fire alarm went off we all thought it was part of the night but there really was a fire in the hotel and some very disapointed ladies when the firemen left with all their clothes still on
while i knit i think
