HD dvd player

Can a dvd player capable of upscaling definately play a HD dvd disc at true HD?

Or is it possible that the upscaling dvd player might not be able to play the HD dvd at true HD?

All I know about the player is that it is silver with a blue LCD display and it's Sony with a blue light representing that the upscaling is switched on.

A normal DVD player capable of upscaling will not play a HD-DVD or a Blu-Ray DVD as they are different technologies.

All an upscaling DVD will do is to make a normal DVD fill a HD screen by "guessing" at the missing pixels and inserting them. However, a normal "upscaling" DVD player will only do that if you connect it to the TV via a HDMI cable.

If it's a Sony DVD player then it is either a Blu-Ray player or a normal upscaling DVD player. It will not be a HD-DVD player.

Chances are it is this one:-

Are there blue ray players which will also play HDDVD

Are the HD DVDs shown in HMV pretty much obsolete now, because soon it will all be blueray?

That machine will not play HD-DVDs (the ones you have linked to) as it is only a standard DVD player.

The HD-DVDs are pretty obsolete now as no-one is making HD-DVD players anymore - Blu-Ray won the battle (much like the VHS/Betamax battle).

There are some machines which will play both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD but they are not worth buying if you don't own any HD-DVDs.
