Therefore my post was relevant to the post I was replying to.

No it wasn't, as metering is the responsibility of the supplier, who will provide a new meter if necessary for anyone want to change tariff.

I've just been working out the difference from my last quarterly bill and if I had not been on the E7 two tarrif rate which I'm currently on now I could have saved the best part of £80 I'm definatley asking to come off E7 now.
  • I switched off the fuse to the heating as it is never cold in our flat and I never remember to set timers for our washing, so I think our Economy 7 is pointless. I didn;t know they charged you extra I just thought it was cheaper through the night...

    Found my Rates used
    550 Day
    71 Night

    Any thoughts?

  • Day 550
    Night 71

    Standard Rate
    17.735 x 225 = 39.90
    9.230 x 396 = 36.55

    76.45 – 22% discount
    -16.82 = £59.63

    Economy 7 Rate
    17.525 x 225 = 39.43
    10.721 x 325 = 34.84
    71 x 5.156 = 3.66

    77.93 – 22% discount
    -17.14 = 60.70

    Overpaying £1.07 around 1.7%

Hmm... not huge but shows a point. I was intending to increase night usage by setting the washer at night etc

    However ...

    These are my E7 Rates:

27p/KWh for Day - drops to about 12p after 200KW/h's ish.
    5p/KWh for Night
    7p/KWh Heat

I don't have gas though, so all water and heating is off the Heat Rate which is around 700kw per quarter...so around £50

    night rate is about £20
    day rate is about £40

so £110 a quarter - not too bad. Add another £50 on over the winter period for additional heating.

If I went for a standard tarrif then it would cost me a helluva lot more due to the water heating. so E7 is very good for my situation.

  • So you set your timers to heat Water at night? I suppose I could set timers for washing machine at night but it is getting behind the bloody thing lol

Depends on your Economy 7 Tarrif.

I have no timers to set. The immersion heater and all heaters are on the nightly 02:00 - 07:00 supply. Then 14:00 to 16:00

Everything else is on the day tarrif - until about 11pm when it switches to the night supply till about 07:00

As previously said some supplies just get cheaper out of hours so you have to set your devices to come on during these off peak hours.

EXACTLY when the E7 hours are. they shift to account for BST and GMT
    ISTR ours are BST = 01:00 to 08:00 and GMT = 00:00 to 07:00.
We have the washing machine and the dishwasher set to come on between those times and (if the weather is bad, checking metcheck.com, use the TD when HWTHMBO get's up at 5am)

The times for E7 are not set by your supplier, but by the distributor for your region (so they don't change if you switch)

I changed elec supplier and they ahve been giving me two meter readings from my one reading meter! Clever they are.
On enqiring about this they told me I was on economy 7, I had this disconnected 5 years ago. I explained this to them, read my meter for them and told them I dont wish to pay the extra per kwh for daytime useage and to remove the economy 7 readings, they said they will remove the old meter at no charge to me which will be single tariff, they apologised profusely but could not explain how they came to be able to split the reading from a single meter to economy 7- magic?
