Open a savings account?

Is there anyone who can tell me why when I try to open a savings account the building society does not want to do this without me seeing their financial advisor first?
I know what type of account I want and do not appreciate their (in my view misleading) advise.
I have 85.000 to invest but as it is earmarked to do up our house it needs to be flexible.

I think it helps if you just agressively say something like 'I`m not being funny, but its my money and i know where i want to put it, now you either accept my cash or i will walk out'.
My husband is brilliant at this, whereas i would quake in my shoes.
We went to the bank yesterday, to do some business. Whilst he was there, he told them that one of his accounts had the wrong address on it, and filled in a form to change it.
They wanted to know if he was a houseowner. 'Youve got my soddin details, look at my other accounts' he told them and he walked out.
They may not change his details, but if they dont, he will kick up a stink with the manager. It wont be the first time either. He normally gets his way too. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They want to try and sell you financial products and make money out of them.
If you don't want to see them then say you've already had advice and know exactly what you want.
Are you going to let me open an account or not?
If they insist on it, then say you want paying for your time or go will go elsewhere.0 -
Just throwing another possibility in the pot here ...
Is it possible that they are trying to pre-empt any possible public criticism or possibility of being sued by not having offered the correct advice. Therefore if you put it in one account and later find that there was a better higher interest earning account with suitable flexible terms you would be annoyed ... just a thought ... however the cynic in me agrees with Listloo that they are looking to flog something.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
