Just fitted new ccwc and can't stop it leaking, I have fitted the coupler and tried a new one but water leaks from the screws and wing nuts. Any ideas please, just going to get another coupler just incase?

Hi,
Have you done it this way ?
Put rubber washer on siphon
siphon thro cistern wall, then metal plate with grooves for nuts, then plastic nut, then finally black donut washer?
Let me know if the layout is different.
Make sure the cistern fits `square` on the pan , if the pan is fitted too far back the cistern will not sit right. Wing nuts underneath should be finger tight.
Check white plastic siphon nut isn`t loose.
Make sure when lowering cistern onto pan that it fits in the hole and donut hasn`t fallen off.
Using silicone is not advised, it makes the rubber slippery and slide off the joints.
A few CCWCs are differnt such as ideal tulip or some of the foreign stuff has fixing bolts that go through the cistern wall, post back if this is the case.On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
Thanks for your reply bestyman, I have done all that but have tightened the wing nuts really tight so may have ruined the washer. I have found a big rubber doughnut and am trying that now still with very tight wingnuts but there is a gap between the cistern and pan! It is possible that the whole thing is too far back but I will need an extension waste to bring it forward anymore. I think I will get another coupler and start again0

Hi,
If the gap between pan and cistern is not equal , meaning the cistern is leaning forwards you will struggle to get a seal. If you try overtighten the wingnuts this can put the metal plate down and cause the nut securing the siphon to come loose.
All you need to move the pan forwards is a multikwik extension piece A ( assuming 4" pipewok) and a pan conector ( straight or possibly offset) An alternative DIY solution would be a telescopic, flexible 4" conector, about £15.
Post back if still stuck .On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
Is this the type where the cistern bolts fit throught the cistern or use a plate under the syphon nut? If it's the former then usually some LSX or silicone around the bolts and washers aid the seal. If it's the latter it's unusual to have a problem unless the cistern is seriously misaligned as bestyman says. If it leaks all the time then it's the syphon backnut and washer, if only when flushed it's the doughnut/wingnuts.0

I think I've cracked it, no not the pan, I think the plastic nut was too thick, I managed to find a thinner one and all seems well. It must have be bottoming, there I go again, so didn't seat properly.
Thanks for your help guys.0
