Credit Card Protection

I pay my Egg Money card by Direct Debit so never hurry to check my statements. I have just checked my recent statements and note that, since August, there is a Credit Card Protection amount debited from my account. I have never requested this protection. I have had the card for approximately two years and all of a sudden they have just started claiming this. I have written to them but wonder if anyone else has experience a similar situation.
