FWIW, I don't think it's a bad system. You'd probably want to add sound/graphics cards at at a later date to improve things, but it's a cheap system with a reasonable spec.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
yeah its a good deal, the vista premium alone would set you back £60-70 quid
and the hdd not much less.click here to achieve nothing!0 -
It needs more RAM though, not really enough to run anything besides Vista and maybe Word if you are lucky0

honestly it doesn't "need" more ram, more ram would be nicer but not essential if budget doesn't allow itclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
If I was after a new system, that would do very nicely at that price. I take it you've got a monitor and everyhig else you'll need??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Looks like a pretty good deal to me.
The only extra required would be the monitor as mentioned above. That could cost you a few quid!I'd rather be playing Squash!

Just checking you're aware that it is a used system, advertised "as new" with a 3 month warranty? Whilst many would argue that used systems can often be good deals I personally be worried about any faults which might develop after 3 months??
Also, Windows Vista might be installed but what are the options re backups and/or supply of Operating System disks?
Personally, I would consider laying out a little bit extra for one of the cheap entry level laptops which often appear on special offer in the likes of ASDA. The added peace of mind of purchasing a brand new product presents a better prospect in the long-term which would be worth the extra cost, imho. A friend of mine recently got a great entry level one for c£260 from ASDA. Keep an eye out on this forum - I'm sure some deals will be posted from time to time.0 -
The OP doesn't want a laptop though and they mentioned gaming which an entry level laptop isn't going to be up to. Having said that the PC in question isn't got to cut it for any sort of gaming without an additional graphics card. I'd want to make sure it has a PCI-E slot before buying to make sure I could add one in. I'd also be looking at another 1Gb of RAM, Vista will run better on 2 Gb.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
It's only a pentium D, which is outperformed by even the cheapest core2 architecture chips.
Only 1GB of ram.
As new, not new.
No information on whether there's a PCI-E slot or not. If there is, it'll almost definitely NOT be 16 lane or PCI-E 2.0, so won't support a lot of the current or last generation's cards.
There's not a snowball's chance in hell that the PSU in this thing can handle a modern card either.
If you're looking to play recent-ish games on it you're looking at spending more than the machine costs to upgrade it. You're looking at a new graphics card and power supply, more ram, probably a new motherboard and probably a new CPU as well.
It's not a bad price for a machine for browsing, video editing, music, or as a media centre. If you plan on gaming, this machine's not for you. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
