If you want an easy way to top and tail gooseberries use a strawberry huller - it's so quick and easy to just pull off the stalk and tail without mangling the fruit.... took me 5 minutes today to deal with a huge punnet of them......dunno why I didn't think of trying it before.
People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading
The difference between a misfortune and a calamity is this: If Gladstone fell jnto the Thames it would be a misfortune. But if someone dragged him out again, that would be a calamity - Benjamin Disreali

Who cares - gooseberries straight off the sun kissed bush in my garden, they are so sweet now they've ripened! I think I shall be heading out there very shortly now the rain has stopped.
Really not worth bothering with topping and tailing though! I normally just eat them as they are, and if you freeze them the flower end comes off when you wash them anyway! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Wasn't trying to be off with the OP (sorry if it sounded that way) - just that I never actually top & tail gooseberries, just rub off the top when I get them out of the freezer to cook them! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
I made gooseberry jam last year with green gooseberries from my gooseberry bush. However, the jam was so so sweet.
Has anyone got a really nice gooseberry jam recipe that they can recommend?0 -
