What's the best credit card for me...

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forums, just after some advice.

I'm looking to get a credit card as I pretty much pay for everything online, and don't think using my debit card is that safe.

I'll be paying it off in full every month, and won't be buying things I can't afford on it, just using it for my normal online monthly purchases, plus my petrol and supermarket shopping.

I thought an egg money card would be best, with the cashback reward scheme, but they refused me!

Can anyone recommend another card with good rewards or shed any light onto reasons why I got refused from the egg money card?

Thanks

Mark

P.S. I have no outstanding loans, debts or other credit cards, if that makes a difference to the egg money problem.

The P.S. is the crucial part of your question. By having none of the above your risk is greater to the card companies as they have no history of payments in which to assess you.
Your best approach will be to try your own bank first and foremost. If they refuse you, then you may have a credit problem so it may also be worth taking a look at your credit file. I take it you are on the electoral register ?

Analogy : If you wanted to borrow a tenner who would you ask ? A mate/relative or a complete stranger ?............

I see where you are coming from. When you say approach you bank, do you mean to get a credit card from the bank?

The only reason I was going to get the egg money card was for cashback rewards. Didn't really want one where I won't get any reward benefit from it!

I am on the electoral register yes. When I moved into my apartment I also passed my credit checks from the estate agents.

    Cheers

Yes, you already have a financial relationship with them so a credit card from them would be a good place to start. Oother companies may well give you a credit card, but it's generally accepted that your own bank should be your first port of call.
Generally the better cards (cashback, lower APR, reward etc) are not available to first timers.
