Will this lot be ok to use or should it go in the bin

I would use the lot,(except the coconut cant stand it) but you could give it a sniff as has been suggested and soak the prunes in cold tea, (yes it works I`ve done it)
The only things I get a bit wary about with the use by dates, are pre packed meats, but you know if they are off as soon as you open the packet and dairy stuff cream etc. Yoghurts I`ve eaten a week after the date is out, sometimes they are ok sometimes not, if not down the sink they go, but you can usually tell with them as the foil on the top blows if they are off.
If you are going to throw the stuff out anyway, you have nothing to lose by opening it, and if you dont like the look of them, bin em.0 -
I'd be concerned about the bourgingnon mix and the ground rice, but I'm not sure why - just a hunch.
Agree with adding the pulses to meat dishes.
We've just started this week adding lentils to mice dishes. I didn't think I was that keen on lentils (was my wife's idea!) but you can't really taste them.0 -

i generally ignore most sell by/use by dates, i also go by the sniff/taste test. I had just started to think i was the only strange person who doesn't throw everything on it's date, glad i came back here and met the real world again.0

out of date lentils need a bit longer to cook. i should know because all of ours are out of date and i'm the only person that cooks them in our house (only veggie!) so they're going down REALLY slowly!
