Bathroom flood

My 3 1/2 year old left the tap running after washing his hands and when we got back home some 4 hours later water was coming through the ceiling. There is quiet a lot of damage to ceiling and obviously everywhere is soaking wet. I read my insurance (direct line) and Im unsure if Im covered?. Policy covers everything (section 1 paragraphs a,b,d,e,f,g http://www.directline.com/home/policy2.pdf ) but not c accidental damage - optional extra. How will this be looked at? WIll it be straightforward?

Going to call in the morning as nothing could have been done last night. I cant sleep as the house is smelling like a wet tramp.

Many thanks

  • Good luck with your claim. My advice for future is when you have kids accidents happen so cover this in your policies. Kids have no idea how much damage they can cause when having so called fun.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

Provided you have got contents as well as buildings cover you should be fully covered apart from the excess.Direct Line have a very sound reputation for sorting things promptly and fairly and will probably send their loss adjuster round to give advice on getting the carpets dried out etc.

    Best of luck.
