Which combi-boiler quote & options should I go with
whoever
I've had 4 different quotes, 3 of which came in at around 3K and the British Gas one which was 5K, so I've put that onto the scrap pile already.
Basically I would like to have our boiler changed to a combi-boiler and moved from the Kitchen to the Garage.
Each quote includes the following:
1. Power flush
2. Drain down system
3. Remove hot water cylinder and tanks in the roof
4. Fit boiler
5. Add inhibitor to the system on re-filling
The following is where each quote slightly differs & where I would like some help please
Q1. Boiler position (2 quotes went 1 way & 2 quotes went the other)?
A. Back of garage, with a horizontal flue. The condenstate pipe would go into a newly made drain (sorry I forget thecorrect name for it) at the back of the garage. (2 people suggested this option)
B Side of the garage with a vertical flue (this is wall is also for the Kitchen & upstairs bathroom). Fit condensator pipe to the washing machine drain in kitchen.
C same as B, but connect a small drian pipe into the existing drain work outside.
I'm not 100% sure C can be achieved due to where back door of the garage is & I can't imagine they can go under the door & hit the existing draiin pipe at a decent angle. That said - maybe there would be enough flow from the boiler being much higher up in the first place.
Q2. Magnetic Inhibator?
Only 1 quote included one of these. Are they worth it and how expensive are they so I can factor that into the quote.
Q3. Which boiler?
I was recommended the following:
GloWorm Ultimate cxi 24 (9.8 L/min)
Baxi 24 HE (9.8 L/min)
Worcester Bosch 27CDi (11 L/min)
I have a 3 bed link detatched house with 2 toilets, 1 bathroom & 1 en-suite. Being an engineer I would rather play it a bit safe and will consider the following
GloWorm Ultimate cxi 30 (12.3 L/min)
Baxi 28 HE (11.5 L/min)
Worcester Bosch 27CDi (11 L/min) [may go with 30CDi as it isn't much more & is 12.6L/min]
Thanks in advance for your help...
Ian.

Good morning: I would question whether any of the combis listed above would be able to meet your DHW needs. Have your CORGIs recommended a combi or do you have a preference for one? Visit the manufacturer's websites for more detail on boiler specification.

Thats interesting as all 4 quotes were by Corgi registered engineers..
I have also found out that one of the other quotes includes a magiclean which I believe is a magnetic inhibitor.0 -
for a bathroom and ensuite i would always quote for a system boiler and unvented water heater
a combi boiler is not designed to run 2 hot sources at the same time
alpha do a 50l water storage/combi all in one unit but for the same price you could have a valliant and a santon unvented water heaterHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Hi whoever
I have just had a quote from my local installer, similer requirements to yourself the only change would be back boiler removal and combi installed in the loft
power flush, drain down etc aswell
boiler info.
FERROLI OPTIMAX HE 38C COMBI NG EXC FLUE
Optimax 38C
Output: 38kw
Flowrate: 15.4 ltr min
Dimensions: 700H x 450W x 330D
Not a well known make but installer has advised he only uses these since they have re-developed them
The price im paying for all this is £1450.00 (£2.5K if he was changing rads aswell) im having it all dont on the 31st july, i will let you know how it goes
Worth having:

Thanks for the info anyhop, but one of the reasons for changing the boiler was to save space & I don't think we will be running 2 hot water sources at the same time very often, if at all.
So I'm heading towards the Baxi 28HE as that was a Which Best Buy.
Is the Baxi a good combi or is the Worcester Bosch better?? I see the Worcester Bosch has a keep warm facility, but I don't see that on the Baxi.0 -
Best option is to go with the quote that includes the Magnaclean (normal cost is a 100 Pounds + installation). It needs periodic/regular cleaning.
Yes, it is worth it, IMO.
