Are you allowed to promote your stuff on ebay on here? I'm too tired to look at the rules etc. Might have a look tomorrow when I'm not too tired and I get no replies.

I'd be wary about posting your items on here, not just for ettiquette, but more for the risk of auction-wreckers. It does not take much for some people to take opportunities to place silly bids, or malicious feedback.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

Like the others have said it is as much for your protection as for the spam issue. We have a way of finding problems with auctions and opening it up to a large anonymous forums like this can get it closed down within hours.
