right I am going to London for a weekend .
I have a payg oyster card but how do I top it up when I get there . How do I know how much credit I have on it .
I no I can have it automatically topped up by £20 or £40 but I will only be there for a weekend so I don't want to do that .
Oh and i will be using it to get to and from heathrow

you can top it up at the ticket machines in the tube stations
just put the card on the yellow oyster pad , and the machine will ask how much you want to top up, insert cash, then touch the oyster on the pad again to validate.
You can check your balance at anytime by putting the oyster on the yellow pad, will show you remaining balance on screen0 -
You can also top up in any shop dispalying the Oyster logo. They too have readers to tell you the balance.0

...or a ticket office if you can find one open!0
