i am really piddled off!
i sold a new next coat on ebay to someone and they sent me a cheque which i received today and paid in today. i've just received an email to say she's been in next and the coat she's bought from me wont fit her. she's stopped the cheque and has asked me to pleeaassse not leave her negative feedback. But what do i do now? i've never been in this position before.
its cost her £10 to stop her cheque but will it cost me any money?
which is the best way to play this? There was a lot of interest in the coat.
thanks for your help xx

I doubt your bank will charge you anything but you will still be charged FVF by ebay. You could srike a deal with her.
If there was a lot of interest in the coat then you could easily relist and could even get more for it this time round. However she should refund you your FVF for the inconvenience and then relist. Don't threaten negative feedback. She can figure that one out. If she refuses then file a npb against her. As for actually leaving negative feedback it depends on whether you think it will be worth the possible retaliatory neg.
PS: confirm with your bank whether you are liable for any charges as a result of the stopped chequeThe reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
You can refund her the money, minus final value fee, minus what it cost you to get the cheque to the bank, minus what you will lose by selling to the person who bid the next highest amount (second chance offer). No need for negatives as genuine mistakes can be made - although she should leave feedback first. Unless she gets difficult and unhelpful that is...
Then offer the coat to the next highest bidder, or just re-list it. When it sells second time round - there will be no extra listing fees.
Easy...
Good luck!:wall:0 -
At the end of the day, she has inconvienced you as otherwise someone else would have bought the coat. If you NPB her (which is fair as she has won and is refusing to buy it), then could you 2nd chance offer it to the next highest bidder? I have been in this situation once when I won a CD which I then discovered I already had (10 cds by the same band...gets confusing). I emailed and apologised profusely and offered to cover all costs of the listing, which I did, and the seller and I went on our merry ways without any negs or NPBs...to their credit.
As a seller I once had a NPB that I didn't report or neg as she was a new ebayer (1 feedback and no id change), and had come back to the pc to find her 3 year old had randomly been clicking with the mouse on my auction page that she'd left open (BIN). I found this quite funny as I could imagine my kids doing it and felt a bit sorry for her. Maybe she was lying..but I checked her ID again a month later and she hadn't gone and won another auction for a similar item soon after which I would have thoguht the most usual reason for backing out after buying something.0 -
It says i have to wait another 6 days to put in a npb!
think i will email her and ask if she would like to reimburse me. havent got a clue what to say though, without sounding like im begging or demanding.0 -
You're not doing either - remember she's in the wrong. Just be factual - 'this is how much your withdrawal has cost me, fees which I can reclaim by filing an NPB against you. Do you wish to avoid this by reimbursing the costs?'
She really shouldn't have cancelled her cheque without telling you first. If you buy on Ebay, you can sell on Ebay - she should have just put it up for sale again.:wall:0 -
Be thankful that you didn't send the item before banking the cheque like a few of us do on here!!
As others have suggested email her explaining the costs to you of her pulling out of the purchase, ask her outright to reimburse you £x plus a £1 restocking/relisting fee. If she reimburses you then just leave it at that, leave no feedback at all. If she doesn't reimburse you by day 7 then just start the NPB process as that will get a response from her.

I think the bank charges you about £25 if you cash a cheque that has been banked but then stopped, that was the charge I was given last year when an eBayer decided she wanted to stop it without telling me.2025 - finally back comping after a stressful house move - send me fairy dust please0

My bank does not charge when I have a cheque credited to my account that later bounces, if they did I would certainly stop accepting them as I've had more than a couple bounce already.
