Help Connecting to Sky Wireless Router

I have been roped into helping an elderly neighbour connect her laptop to Sky broadband. I've already had one go, but her laptop just doesn't see the router. It can see the connection when searching wireless networks but doesn't connect when you choose to connect to it (triple checked SSID and network key (WPA) but it doesn't even seem to "try" to connect). I've also tried hooking it up with an ethernet cable but it still doesn't recognise a connection when I try to enter the router's IP address.
I also have Sky broadband and our PCs can see each other's wireless connections. Could it be a problem that we both have Sky routers with the same IP addresses? Or shouldn't it matter since they're on different networks?
I said I'd try again at the weekend but I really don't know what to do. I know a fair bit about PCs (Systems Analyst by day) but networking isn't a forte of mine, especially when she has Vista, which I have no experience of as I'm happy with XP. Please help!
