go to start - type in msconfig

on the window that pops up go to the STARTUP tab and that will show you (via ticks) what is running when it starts up (you'll be amazed).

You can then untick what you don't want - just be careful what you untick!!!

    Easy!

    Hope this helps!

What do you mean, when you say you have 3 programs running? Does the computer tell you? Or do they just come up?

I don't know how you can know that the programs are running, but not what they are. That's not me saying you're stupid by the way, just that I don't understand the question!

Don't do this without googling each program first because if you untick the wrong thing you can stop the operating system, or an important driver from running.

I appreciate the concerns of the previous poster (and agree in part) - however some are obvious such as MSN messenger, Quicktime, Java scheduler, some other c*ap downloads most people acquire(including me!).

If you don't know what it is don't untick it as the previous poster implies, personally wouldn't waste time googling them - but then patience isn't my strong suit - which is a problem when I work with computers all day!

Ah that makes sense, they might appear as icons in the tray (which means by the clock) - usually your antivirus software.

Do what jbanks said then, it ought to be safe enough if you follow his advice. If you want to see what is running at any time, press Ctrl, Alt and Del all together and it will bring up a list of programs.

    Hi

regcure - according to its website is:

"RegCure uses the most sophisticated technology available to analyze your registry for missing, obsolete, and corrupt entries.

Compatible with all Microsoft products and third party applications, RegCure seeks out those remnants left behind on your registry from failed installations, incomplete un-installations, disabled drivers, and spyware applications."

So is a way of tidying up your registry and putting things back into order and I personally wouldn't untick this!

To find out what the 3 programmes that are running are as "foreversomeday" says CTRL, ALT and DELETE and then click on TASK MANAGER to see the list of applications running.

    Hope all this helps!
