Cheapest Way to Get to Gatwick?

Hi,
I'm due to fly out of Gatwick on 11th October coming back 18th October and I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get there and back from Cardiff. I took a look on the National Express website and they want around £45 - cheaper than driving but still a little steep for a bus!
Is there any sort of megabus style service that goes to Gatwick or other cheaper way anyone knows of?

There's a Megabus from Bristol to Victoria. But, even with that at £1 each way, you'll not get it much cheaper than £40!
Cardiff to Bristol will be c£15-20 return and the same for Victoria to Gatwick.
Then there's all the hassle of the connections!0 -
Split ticketing works with National Express if you have to go through London
Cardiff to London - from £5 each way on National Express with a funfare
London to Gatwick - £6.60 one way on National Express, return is £12.200 -
How many of you are there? There's a rail offer for 3 or 4 people at £115 return total - called Gatwick Flyaway. Change at Reading, no peak hour restrictions, buy on the day.
Alternatively rail advance purchase tickets (won't be released for a while yet) can be quite cheap. Main disadvantage is they are lost if your plane is delayed. They start at £11.50 each way0 -
There's also a group Nat Express fare to Gatwick for 4 or more people - very decent discounts, I think.0

How did you find a £5 funfare Alan? None coming up for me on the dates he wants.0 -

Thanks guys. Nice to know what my options are. Unfortunately it's just me doing the journey. I may stick with the £45 National Express direct. The extra £5 or so to avoid connections seems worth it.0
