xbox 360 scratching discs??

Hi

My son bought an xbox 360 recently. He takes great care with the discs but in the last week 2 games will not work (reading data error). On inspecting the discs both have marked circles near the outside. This seems curious as it is the same marking on both causing me to think it is a problem with the xbox rather than not looking after the discs.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

Thanks in advance

    Hi codo

I think this is due to moving the console while the disc is inside or having the console vertical  . Microsoft are doing a disc replacement heres the link

    hope this helps

    Hey,

We have also had the same problem. One way to get the discs to load is to tilt your X-Box forward whilst loading the disc.

The other way, particulary good for older, scratched discs is to use original T-Cut and a dry cloth, this polishes the scratches out and we have renewed over 20 'dud' discs this way, with 4 kids in the house a lot of our discs get scratched.

    hope this helps......

This is very much a problem only caused by moving the console whilst a disc is in the drive and spinning, as already stated Microsoft will replace the disc...but only with a Microsoft game studios released game.

So if someone like EA released the scratched game then you will not get the same one back.

Best way to avoid re-occurrence is to place the XBOX 360 on its side at all times, this also helps to keep it cooler and reduces risk of the dreaded RROD
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Yes, as others have mentioned (But just to clarify) it's best to keep the Xbox horizontal rather than vertical at all times, and to remove discs before moving it (e.g. to a friends house or even just around the room.) Best to remove discs when not playing in case the surface the Xbox is on gets knocked.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

    Hi

Thanks to you all. My son confirmed he has moved the xbox while the disc was in the drive so that would have caused the scratch. He also has had it standing vertically so we will also change that.

Have checked the disc replacement program and one of the games is listed so will follow that up. The other is an ea game so will try the t-cut tip for that one.

    Thank again

You could also try toothpaste if that doesn't work (google "toothpaste trick" and you should find something about it).

Or, if you want a slightly more scientific approach, I believe branches of gamestation offer a disc buffing service...(can anyone confirm that?)
  • I heard boiling discs in a pan of water does the trick too. It sounds a bit daft but I Googled it and apparantley it does work

There are gadgets you can buy that skim discs, probably the same thing as used in shops.
My daughter tried to return a Playstation,EA game to Game. A sharp triangular piece had come out the centre of the disc. Game said this was due to manhandling badly...Just exactly how the **** do you do that?
They refused a refund but suggested a buy a new game. I never forgave them and never went back, but I did contact EA who replaced the disc for, I think,£3.00.
Well worth contacting the game manufacturers
