Hi all! Help and Advice Please!

Have 2 TVs (not plasma or lcd) and both have developed the same fault within a day of each other. That is the picture colour is distorting, from out to in varying colours in the shape of a target. I am told this to do with the static not being released from the tube and the part being faulty.

A couple of years ago we had an electricity surge and it blew our DVD player and some other electrical equipment which they (electricity board) replaced. A friend has told me that a surge would blow the part I referred to and as both have gone this is to much of a coincidence. Further he added that the Sony TV we have is a very good model and he has never heard of that part going in that model!

Have you tried switch off the TVs (properly not just standby) leaving them for a while and then switching back on? (May need to do it a few times). Most modern CRT TVs have degaussers built into them and are activated by powering on.

Thanks. I have done this and it worked and continues to work for the Sony but made no difference to the LG. Do you know if a surge would effect the degausser?

Wouldn't have necessarily thought so. What model is it? It may not necessarily have a degaussing circuit installed. (Could require a repairman to degauss it with his "wand" manually so to speak).

(Apologies for the overuse of "necessarily", one of those times the word sticks in your head and you can't think of a synonym).
