We are in the midst of having loads of work done and our builders are fantastic - they bring their own Henry and clean up as they go!
The dust in the atmosphere will be around for months - try having the doors and windows open as much as possible and be prepared for continually damp-wiping - don't get any books or ornaments out of storage for as long as you can live without them. Put newspaper on the tops of cupboards, wardrobes etc as dust will acumulate there and you can just fold it up inside the paper and dispose of it.

a tip I haven't tried is to sprinkle damp tea leaves on the floor and then sweep - this is supposed to attract lots of dust!
