beware costs of children holidays

Just to let everyone know that certainly in the First Choice holiday company, children, even ones that you are paying full price for, DO NOT count towards occupancy in an apartment. I recently booked for myself, OH and 13 yr old daughter in accommodation that sleeps 3. When we checked for 3 adults it was £250 cheaper than 2 adults and one child paying full price! This is apparently because 3 adults incur a 'multiple adult discount' and children, even if paying full do not count towards occupancy, so I had been charged an under-occupancy supplement! I think they're pulling a fast one and trying it on myself. I don't know if any other tour operator does this but it's something to check for before booking and to bear in mind.

The way to get round that is not to put the childs dob in when putting your details in. Then they are calssed as an adult and you don't get charged the under occupancy
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

hi there the tour companys have been doing this for years, about 6 years ago tryed to charge me £260 more for 2 adults +3 children than for 5 adults,I had to ask for the manager of the shop as the girl dealing with us refused to book 5 adults, and the manager then booked it as 5 adults ,but still had to fight to get her to do this, from then on I have always booked my children as adults ,but you need to be carefull as a lot of these companys when you try to book children as an adult on line ,they will always look for a DOB and the minute you put that in they refuse to go on with the booking until you change the adult to a child.I find this is just another way to hit the poor familys again

Related gripe.. why do companies charge a supplement for single people staying in a single room.. I can understand to a certain extent charging extra for one person in a double (they coulfd be renting it to two people and getting extra) but if the room is a single anyway, they couldn't have got anymore.. so whats the rationale to that!!??!!!
