Hi i was kindly given a powerbook G3, ( so its not a new laptop, about 10 years old! ) it turned on just fine, was on for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon then at night i connected it to my wired broadband router, it was on for atleats another hour yet then suddenly the powerbook went dead on me! im not sure what happened, it had the battery in, ethernet port was conected to my broadband wired router, the power lead in, so its was charging and it had been on an hour or so and suddenly shut off all of a sudden! i could see the adapter of it was sparking, little blue lights, i presumed its current, so i disconnected it, im thinking needs new adapter? what do u think?
Also before anyone says it, the specs are terrible a measley 233mhz, 160mb an d 2gb but i really want to keep and use it, so please advice only on how to sort the problem out would be appreciated, i really dont wanna bin it!
TIA, FunkyFeet x

cant say for certain, but it sounds like your PSU is fritzed. in theory a new one should be enough to get it back up (im guessing it "died" because the battery ran out)
it could be that the power socket on the laptop is dead, and thats a whole bigger can of worms.
but try ebay, you might get lucky picking up a compatible PSU for not much (G4 ibook ones go for £25-40, so i would think you can get one for less than £20 if you shop around)0 -
Thanks Wayne for ypur quick and informative response! i have since realied just the connecting part-the yo-yo but is a bit dodgy but is actually working, so i dont have to fork out on a apple power supply cable, yay!

Oooh a Wallstreet. Classic machine.
You can get OSX 10.2 (Jaguar) running on it but you need to !!!!!! about with it a bit. For starters you need a drive of at least 8GB.
Details are here.
To go beyond Jaguar (and you can although it'll be tough going) you need xpostfacto from here.
Ain't going to be easy though.0
