Sorry, I know there's been a previous thread re shutdown probs and I have looked at the replies there and tried one or two of the suggestions but I'm still having difficulty shutting down, whether I use the start key or ctl alt del.
Please can someone suggest something I can try?
Grateful thanks

Just Turn the PC off by holding the switch in where you turn it on
in failing that just pull the plug wait 2mins and plug back in.0 -
What operating system do you have??

Assuming you have a password on the system and you have not disabled Stand By, put it into standby (Start, Turn Off, Stand By)!
Then once in standby, move the mouse or what ever to get it our of standby. Click the "Turn Off Compaq" (Compaq being the name of your computer! It varies!) It will tell you that there are others logged on and they will lose any unsaved work, but if you are the only one on, and have nothing to lose, then dont worry!
It should shut down okay then. SOmetimes, some background tasks prevent the system from shutting down! I just do what i detaled above!
