Many providers will provide a router so no need to rush out and spend any money just yet.
Loads of threads and links on here about who to use and who will give the best value for money
(My personal is o2 as I get a discount from having an o2 mobile and their customer service is fantastic)
If I had this laptop I would buy an external DVD writer to go with it as that should do for most of her everyday needs.
is your o2 mobile broadband like i asked in my last post? just the stick thing you put into slot on side of laptop. thanks, so an external dvd writer will do the trick? great thats very helpful xmyx0 -
Mobile broadband is quite different and while it can be useful if you don't have a landline it is generally (but not always) slower
Also there can be more severe limits on your usage imposed so it can end up being expensive.
When she is out and about she can connect using wi-fi at places where it is free - coffee shops, MacDonalds, public libraries etc
o2 provide a box which you plug into your phone line and your computer.
it is also wireless so no need for the laptop to be connected to the box all the time, but for the internet to work the box must be connected to the phone line
Other providers do exactly the same0 -

ok thanks so thats what wifi means..so BASICALLY if she buys a external dvd writer and orders broadband from any isp provider, they will provide her with all necessary equipment to get her up and running with broadband? xmyx0 -
more or less yes.
On the main page of MSE there is a link to Broadband info - worth reading to help choose the right ISP
The external writer is only to allow her to use CDs/DVDs that come with any programmes or for her to back up stuff that she wants to onto DVD.0
