Advantis Credit - help needed

Hi, i've received a letter from Advantis Credit stating that they are anxious to resolve their clients debt (Client being Arrow Global). This is the first letter I have received from them. There is no mention of an amount of debt. I have no idea who Arrow Global are and have never had any contact with them!?!?

Any ideas what, if anything I should do? My girlfriend is 7 months pregnant and it's stressing her out having people chase us for debt.

Thanks in advance

Arrow Global Recoverables management or whatever they call themselves are a fairly new debt collection company. have not had time to ferret out Advantis but the chances are they are related.

First things first, it is not at all unknown for debt companies to send letters to people who do not owe the money but have a simliar name.

It is even more common for them to send out letters relating to debts that are statute barred or for which they do not have the necessary legal paperwork, hoping the debtor does not know that in law thses debts are unenforceable.

Based on what I could see on other web-site AG are in this sort of category and were not producing documentation for debts and doing things that looked odd, which people were challenging and reporting. The timing is not great but this is manageable.

So please ask the GF to calm down; the increased blood pressure will not help her, the baby or you.

There are two options; do nothing and see if they go away (someone else is daft enough to ring them) or send the letter below.

What you may want to do first is to get your credit checks and see if anything is showing up there to indiate what this might be about.

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Ref: xxxxxxxxxxx

You have contacted us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by ourselves.

We would point out that we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to The Loan Company.

We are familiar with the ‘Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance’ which states that it is unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.

We would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.

Furthermore, ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.

We would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above accounts unless you can provide evidence as to our liability for the debt in question.

We await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise we will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.

We look forward to your reply.

    Yours faithfully

Yes calling them should only be attempted if you're VERY calm and know your facts and can quote boring long documents at them...

Send the letter above and send recorded :)

Why don't you sign? Is it incase your signature shows up somewhere strange? E.g. copied/forged?

I cannt remember all the details but there have been at least four report of something along those lines on here in the last year or so.

In one case the signature inserted into a CCA was that of the debt charity employee who had written on behalf of a client.
