As royal mail state that it is an offence to claim non receipt if you have, perhaps it is time to draft a letter to send to buyers who claim non delivery. If you word it in a semi legal way, perhaps a few lines from the RM site and get them to sign and date it and enclose a stamped addressed envelope. This could be sent out before giving a refund. I would like to bet a lot of packages will suddenly turn up. If it is a genuine loss RM may accept this as proof.

That sounds like a very good idea to me. Perhaps Custardy could offer his opinion

Hurrah! Got a pleasant surprise in the post this morning - a cheque from Royal Mail. Got back the cost of the items but not postage, but, hey, it's better than I thought I would get. It seems they have decided to pay me without confirmation that he did not receive the item, maybe due to me arguing the case with them. My faith in Royal Mail is restored, and hopefully I wont need to post any more claims for lost parcels with them.

Thanks to all who offered advice.

Im waiting for about 70 pounds worth of refunds from 3 buyers none of whom has responded to RM or my emails requesting them to contact RM claiming non-receipt. Two of these were actually sent recorded. I'm not actually sure as to what to do now. Well done to OP though

But if they have paid by paypal then surely paypal will decide in their favour if the item is not tracking (if sent recorded). This has happened to me twice. Even if I had sent a letter out like you state, they would still have got their refund through paypal eventually.

Hello, I've got a question about non delivery on non-tracked items. Doesn't the local sorting office (if that is the correct term) make a note of the parcels that have come in i.e. then name and address of the recipient and possibly the sender if it is on there, or are the parcels just bought into the sorting office and then thrown into a van?

I'm just trying to see if I can contact my buyers sorting office as it had her name and address and my name and address on and understand if it has been delivered (it was posted 1st class but was a largish box). I've just had a message from my buyer to say that she is selling her friend's PS2 and it is not the one that I have sold to her!

    Thanks,

Like Custardy says the only tracked items are special and even those can go unsigned for and get lost.

if the item you are referring to though was worth over £36 then standard mail will not cover you against loss anyway as there is a limit of 100 x the cost of a 1st class stamp for compensation.

    Thanks Soolin,

No the item sold for under £36. I was just hoping that the size of the box would make it a little more impossible to get lost!
