You don't actually need the crappy AOL software.[/quote]
People keep telling me this but does this really mean that I can delete all reference to AOL and just start using Firefox which for some strange reason is very much faster?
At the beginning of the week my computer was working well and quick too. Yesterday I noticed the printer was nowhere to be found so I sorted that out this morning, hopefully. Now, everything is very slow again. Considering how little I use this machine (2 hours day) it is very difficult to get it running smoothly all the time. I have even lost MS Word and have no idea why. Last time I did a clean up I used Ccleaner. Can'timagine that is the reason Word has disappeared. I found WordPad and used it to type a letter last night but there is no spell-check.0 -

best not do that!! some of the aol provided software will actually un install your modem drivers as well and unless you have a bit of tech experience it may be difficult to get that working again, if you purchase a router you will be able to get rid of the aol software np.
If you are past the original 12 months contract with aol you could try phoning them to renegotiate a new contract with a free router thrown in!! threaten to leave if they won't play ballclick here to achieve nothing!0 -
I'm with AOL and a while back they sent me an email saying that their billing was changing and I would be paying monthly instead of annually. There was no mention of Virgin or anyone else taking it over. So far no monthly payment has been taken (and I check my accounts regularly). When I check my account with AOL it says that I am paying on the 21st of each month. I'm mystified!!0

There's something going on - see this Virgin page:
http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/aol-migration.php
And neither the aol.co.uk nor the aol.com web sites are working for me tonight.0 -

just checked and aol web site is fine, not sure if that page is related or not, many customers do migrate from aol to virgin just as many go the opposite way.
Having asked about, many feel the same way i do that aol "giving" paying customers away is not logical.
I suspect the OP has been the victim of either some unwitting migration persuasion or a unscrupulous salesperson and needs to find out what is going on..click here to achieve nothing!0 -

This 'migration' is for AOL users who had AOL broadband over the cable network and not the usual ADSL.
AOL ADSL customers were taken over by CPW (TalkTalk).
AOL over Cable network customers are going to be direct cable customers.
AOL Cable customers paid AOL, AOL got the then NTL to send out an engineer and fit a cable connection and modem and AOL paid NTL their cut. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
