  • I live in Nottingham and about ten years ago there used to be a self service laundrette with a dry cleaning machine just opposite Wollaton Hall on Derby Road but it’s now closed down. Does anyone know of a laundrette with dry cleaning machine anywhere in the East or West Midlands?

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

I'm new to this, but enjoying the forums. I apologise in advance if this is already on the site and I have not yet come across out, but I buy 4 times 5 litre containers of white vinegar for around £10 on Amazon. Keep an eye on the lightening deals it sometimes comes up there. Bicarb is also available in large quantities there too. Plus of course they deliver out to.

    Hope this helps those looking

Don't bother with mold cleaner in the bathroom. I use bleach which works perfectly well.
To freshen the grouting round the tiles get an old toothbrush and work the undiluted bleach into the grout. Leave overnight then rinse thoroughly before use. Sparkling.
  • is using bleach the best way to tackle mold in the bedroom as well? Do I just wipe the affected area with it? Tia

I cannot say for sure as I've only used it in the bathroom.

Why not try a small patch to see if it works rather than doing a large area at first
  • You can get white vinegar in large quantities and bicarbonate iof soda from Amazon postage free

If it's mold between. the tiles in the grout just use an old toothbrush and scrub neat beach on affected areas. Leave overnight then rinse off next day....voila!

Reviving this thread as it is really interesting to me. Apart from using citrus peel in vinegar, so far I hadn't done much about making my own cleaning products, relying instead on "eco" products.

However now I am A) a bit more skint as both DH and I are pensioners (and I won't see my state pension for another few years) B) more conscious of single use plastic, so more keen to reduce its use.

I hope more people will post simple homemade recipes for natural cleaning and homecare!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

As a new user I'm not allowed to submit the link however if you want home made shake and vac, google "home made shake and vac" and go to to 'frugalfamily' site. They have a load of recipes for homemade versions of cleaning products.
