My husband is going to be working abroad from this week and he has been told that although he will be provided with a laptop and internet access, it is unlikely that he will have a phone (he will be on an oilrig). So, I wondered if the above product, found on https://www.qvcuk.com would be of use to us.

Has anyone used this? Can he phone my landline using the phone/pc abroad? Or, would I only be able to speak to him if my Internet was switched on at the time, and I was using the other handset? (I notice that 2 are provided)

Someone with more knowledge on this subject will no doubt advise a cheaper route

another way might be to look at http://web.net2phone.com/consumer/commcenter/
you only need standard earpiece / mic ( or one of the headsets that do both)- much less outlay ( although call cost highr than standard VoIP)

I use their calling card , and quality is good ... although can't comment about the pc to phone service

that said ... no phones , but internet... that surprises me
