Boiler Service for £49

Hi

We are with BG for both Electricity and Gas Supply.

Moved into this property in Nov 2006.
We have a MYSON Apollo Boiler and a hot water cylinder for storing hotwater, Since we moved to this property we have not got the Boiler Serviced.

Early this year had a problem with CH and ended up replacing the Hot Water Cylinder thanks to a local plumber and my ignorance.

Any suggetions is it worth getting in touch with BG for this service?

Many Thanks

When I had my boiler repaired last year it cost £125. (Private bloke - I was ripped off). I normally wouldn't touch British Gas but my daughter recently had them to repair her boiler at a special offer -fixed price and according to my gasman they did at least £200 of work for the fixed price which was about £130. The above seems a good deal.
In fact I think I will contact them to do mine which is due in Aug!!
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!

The link that the OP did to the BG site details what the BG man will do for a 'service'. In our opinion that is not a service - it is an inspection. When we do a service - £50 + vat, it includes a thorough cleaning of the inside of the boiler in addition to what BG does.
What BG offer as a 'service' might not be what your boiler manufacturer specifies should be done in an annual service to keep up your warranty (if still under warranty) so you should check in you boiler instructions before taking up this offer.

I wonder if this falls under the payment of £40 for "other sales" on the quidco website?

I live in Greater London Area,
So what jcorbygas is suggesting is that its more of an inspection then servicing.

I had a bad experience with a local guy, hence I am thinking of going with BG (fixed price.) Makes me wonder if it might be a good idea to get a quote from some local guys, and see if for the same money or a little bit more would they do the Servicing rather then just an inspection.

    Thanks all for your inputs.

Just done that, called nPower spoke to a guy who first said it was £75, then I mentioned about the £29.99 offer on the internet (though I must admit, I did not see this on the nPower website) Then immediately I was offered the price of £29.99 for the 30 point service they carry out.....

Wondering if anyone has taken their Gas Boiler Breakdown Cover, any good? Looks like they cost a lot lesser than British Gas.
