hi
i have a 2.5 litre diesel transit on an s plate
the engine is quiet noisy and i was wondering if anyone knew of anything i could do to shut it up
is there anything i could put in the oil????
i think the main problem is the tappets and diesel knock
it drives me nuts especially on the motorway

there are special synthetic additives on the market but are very costly. If it is diesel knock it is a case of replacement engine or scrap van and buy new as it is not worth the trouble getting it repairedWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

sounds a bit obvious...but have you got enough oil in your engine?
low oil level can result into a lot of noise in the engine.
or, have you recently had the oil changed?
if you put thinner oil into your engine, this sometimes results in louder sounds from the engine.

So many things it could be - if it's new nouse, get it listened to, by the garage.
Or resort back to the left hand control switch on the dash, marked loud, turn to max on radio 2!!

soundproof the bonnet/bulkhead area with a flame retardent material. reminds me of a 1986 pug 205 i had recently with a rotten door. the wind noise was very loud while doing 70+ mph. solved the problem with ear plugs :-)Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems Well at least i learn something on the way0

bobbywomble, i was in my local halfords yesterday and saw a treatment that you can use to reduce nose from the engine tappets and valves.
its made by wynns and is called 'hydraulic valve treatment. it specified that it reduces engine noise from the tappets and this is the only product that i saw that did this.
worth a try considering it was only near a fiver!
give it a go and tell us how it went,

When I first start my car the tappets are noisy until the hydraulic valves fill with oil, if the oil is low on the transit then it will be noisy.
No point trying to hide the noise when the engine is part of the problem! Treat the problem first before you need a new engine.I'm not poor i'm just skint0
