Cancelling Sky but will I still get any channels?

Now I have Freeview I find I am watching Sky less and less but paying, a now wasted, £22 per month for it. If I cancel will I still be able to get any channels or will the Sky unit just stop working?

A friend said he had heard that for a one off payment of £20 I could still get quite a few channels and so wonder if this is true?

load of rubbish...you will still get the free channels such as BBC1/2/3/4
ITV1/2/3/4/ and so on...because they are free...to watch...doesn't matter which equipment you have...sky digibox or freeview they are all free to watch...:D

You dont get channel 4 or 5. To get these you would have to pay £20 to get the Freesat card (from Sky cust service).

If you have Sky+, the recording facility on it will stop working as well, unless you pay £10pm subscription for it.

    This is incorrect,

You will still get channels 4 and 5,

Basically when you cancel your sub, you will lose the premium channels sky 1 etc, however until sky issue out new cards normally 2-3 year rotation you card will still decrypt channels 4 and 5 for the moment do not pay any money to get a freesat card as this will be effectively what you will have when you cancel you sub

You don't need the £20 FTV card.

When you cancel your Sky subscription your current viewing card turns into a FTV card.

There are around 200 Free To Air channels on satellite, these don't require a viewing card. Channels such as BBC channels, ITV channels, Zone channels, True Movies, World Movies, Film4, News Channels are many many more.

Then there's Ch4, Five, Five US, Fiver, Sky Three and some +1 version, these are FTV and your cancelled Sky subs card will get those as would a £20 FTV (from FreeSatFromSky) - but why pay £20 for a card, when for £0 your current viewing card will turn into one!
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Wrong. It is £10 pm unless you subscribe to an entertainment package. So if you use Free Sky (or whatever it's called) you will need to pay £10 pm for Sky+ if you want the facility, otherwise your Sky+ box will just act as a normal Sky box. It used to be free with Movies or Sports Mix, but they changed it in July 2007 to be free with any subscription:

    http://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/skytv/pricesandpackages

Sky+: Sky+ subscription required to use Personal Video Recorder features of Sky+ (free for Sky TV subscribers while you subscribe to any Sky digital package, otherwise £10 a month).

    If you look here http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freeview.html

Basically that's what a freeview box will give you, sam as Sky will if you cancel.
