My friend is trying to update his super-duper camera, and has been emailed a .bin file. When he expands it (using Stuffit expander or just by double-clicking), it creates a smaller .bin.cpgz file. Doing the same again turns it back into a .bin file!
How can he get the "stuff" out of this file to use on the camera??? He's been trying all week :rotfl:
He's on a Mac running Safari.
Cheers

you need to mount the .bin using something like dameon tools or alcohol 120 (im not sure if these are avaible for mac) you could also trying to change the file extension to a .iso
are you sure that stuffit expander supports .bin files????
hope this points you in the right direction0 -
.bin file sounds like the firmware file for the camera, and doesn't sound like it needs to be extracted, or opened with Stuffit. There should be instructions from the camera manufacturer on how to update the firmware on the camera, involving moving the .bin file onto it. Be careful with firmware though!0

Thanks both - I don't know if he's tried just putting the .bin on the camera (will check tonight). Seems like he would have done though

He just got it emailed from "a bloke" who couldn't understand why he was having trouble with it - said it should be really simple :rolleyes:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
there will be a way to upload the file to the camera to upgrade the firmware. search the manufacturers website for details is my advice..
cookie monster - there is no need for extra software on a mac to unpackage a .bin file... does it automagically.. a basic stuff it expander will extract the files out of a .bin.0
